James William McCabe - Jim McCabe

Husband, Dad, Granddad, brother, friend, golfer, entertainer, singer, footballer, fan and simply the best!

Suddenly on October 27th 2007 our world was shattered.
God dealt his hand and decided to take my Dad. Leaving behind a devoted wife, two daughters, one brother, two son-in-laws, four grandchildren, the youngest being only 11 days old and a huge void in all our lives.

The one and only Jim McCabe.

As many have said, my Dad was one of lifes gentlemen.
He would do anything for anyone and would happily give his last to an unknown stranger. That was my dad.

He had several walks of life and for all his life was short lived it was a very full life.

My Dad touched many peoples lives and hearts. He was an exceptional leader, coach, team-player, workmate and most of all a good friend.

We would always joke on that my Dad was Peter Pan and that he never grow old and now he never will. He can forever be young in our hearts.

My Dad loved his family, friends, football \'lads\' and Sunderland football club
We miss you so much
Till we can meet again Dad

A year has been and past without you Jim. Not a day has gone past with me thinking about you. You would of been proud on saturday watching The Lads beating the mags 2-1 in our finest hour...and a half.
Anyways look over our Dot and the kids as they are the ones who need you the most to guide them.

Your dad was a hero to Phil Harris

my name is phil harris, i am a very good friend of chris baines. when we were growing up we both played for lambton street. your dad jim was our manager and someone we looked up to very much and who looked after us with great affection.

the reason i feel to write is cos im at baines house now - when we stopped playing football for jim i joined the royal marines and have been away all of my adult life. when i come back to sunderland i always have a drink with chris baines and we always talk of our times with lambton street and espescially jim, playin his kind of mackem football, fighting, and stealing from garages!! LOL!!

he told me jim had passed away and i am gutted, i just wish i had kept in touch with him - i never did thank him for being so good to us, i am 31 and have served 12 years in the marines and since then have worked privately in iraq. i will now probably work my adult life fighting wars and i would just like to say it was positive male role models like your dad who has helped me becopme the man i am.

THANK YOU.

Phil.

DADS FINAL FAREWELL

THAT WAS JIM

DOT AND THE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME YOU ALL TO

CELEBRATE AND COMMEMORATE THE LIFE OF JIM!

WE ALL NEW HE WAS BORN TO SING AND PERFORM, SO WELCOME TO THE

MUSIC MANS FINAL PERFORMANCE.

JIM TOUCHED THE HEART AND SOUL OF SO MANY PEOPLE THROUGHOUT HIS LIFE. NON MORE SO THAN DOT HIS LOVING AND DEVOTED WIFE FOR 41 YEARS. HE WAS BLESSED WITH TWO GIRLS GILLIAN AND LESLEY AND ALSO 4 FANTASTIC GRANDCHILDREN.

REBECCA
JOHN JAMES
JOSH
AND OUR LATEST ADDITION LUKE, WHO EVEN THOUGH FOR A FEW SHORT WEEKS HAD THE PLEASURE OF SEEING AND BEING WITH HIS GRANDAD.

WAYNE AND MYSELF (THE IN LAWS) ALWAYS HAD SOMEWHERE TO GO AND HIDE WITH JIM WHEN THE MCCABE WOMEN KICKED OFF, WE ARE BOTH HONOURED AND PROUD TO CALL HIM DAD.

HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED BY US ALL.

JIM HAD 4 PASSIONS IN LIFE, GOLF, MUSIC (ELVIS), FOOTBALL (ALL THINGS SUNDERLAND) AND ABOVE ALL ELSE HIS FAMILY.

HIS MUSIC AND SINGING AT TIMES INFURIATED DOT, BUT I KNOW THERE WAS NO PROUDER PERSON, WHEN JIM PERFORMED LIVE AT THE DURHAM GALA THEATRE (COPIES OF THIS RECORDING CAN BE BOUGHT AT ALL BAD RECORD SHOPS + PERHAPS SOME GOOD). THAT WAS JIM!

HIS PASSION FOR ALL THINGS SUNDERLAND NEEDS NO MENTIONING, HIS BELOVED CLUB HAS LOST THEIR MOST ARDENT FAN. HE NOW TAKES UP HIS PERMANENT SEAT AT THE STADIUM OF LIGHT, AND WITH SAFC NOW BACK IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE AND THEIR NEXT HOME GAME AGAINST THE ENEMY WE WILL NEED HIM AS OUR TWELTH MAN. THAT WAS JIM!

JIM TOOK A KEEN INTEREST IN ALL LOCAL FOOTBALL, MANAGING CLUBS LIKE LAMBTON BOYS AND LITTLEWOODS, MANY OF THOSE PLAYERS BECAME AN EXTENSION OF HIS FAMILY. JIM FOUND THEM HARD TO CONTROL AT TIMES, ON ONE OCCASION COMING BACK FROM A GAME, THEY STOPPED OFF AT A SERVICE STATION TO GET PETROL, THE LADS GOT OUT AND NYE ON EMPTIED THE SWEET COUNTER WITHOUT PAYING, JIM AND DOT SORTED THEM OUT THOUGH, THEY GAVE HIM RESPECT. JIM WAS A GIVER AND NEVER ASKED FOR ANYTHING IN RETURN, UNUSUAL IN THIS DAY AND AGE, BUT THAT WAS JIM!.

JIM ALSO SERVED IN THE ARMY WITH THE ROYAL CORPS OF SIGNALS FOR 12 YEARS, SERVING HIS COUNTRY WITH HONOUR AND DISTINCTION. (THERE ARE PROBABLY SOME STORIES HERE, BUT I DON’T THINK A CHURCH IS THE RIGHT PLACE TO REMINISE ABOUT THESE). THAT WAS JIM!

SINCE HIS RETIREMENT, JIM AND DOT EMBARKED ON A TOUR OF EUROPES HOLIDAY RESORTS, SEARCHING OUT KAROAKE BARS, TERRORISING THE HOLIDAY MAKERS AND LOCALS ALIKE, WITH ELVIS AND ROY ORBISON.
(ON ONE OCCASION I GOT A PHONE CALL AT WORK, IT WAS JIM ASKING ME TO PHONE DOT, I ASKED HIME WHERE HE WAS, HE REPLIED CYPRUS, AND HE WAS STUCK IN A TOILET IN THE SUPERMARKET. HE HAD JUST GOT A NEW MOBILE AND DIDN’T HAVE DOTS MOBILE NUMBER ON IT, I HAD TO PHONE DOT AND GET HER TO GO AND RESCUE HIM FROM THE TOILET) THAT WAS JIM! WE COULD GO ON!

WE ALL LOVE HIM AND WILL MISS HIM, BUT WE WILL NEVER FORGET HIM

THAT WAS JIM

Jim was a great man and will be sorely missed by those who he met and his family, who he loved dearly. He has left a viod in our lives which cannot be replaced. Never a day goes by without me thinking about my uncle Jim and what I now cannot do with him. Everytime i here this song 'Wise Men Say' by Elvis it brings a tear to my eyes as it noe holds sentimental value as a tribute to our Jim. There is no length of time that we can have that can allow us to get over this shock of his departure for this World.
God Bless You Uncle Jim.
See You on the other side Jim. x
